Donating Coats
Does anyone know where I can donate used winter coats? I'm moving at the end of July and I am cleaning out my closet.
I know it's not really the coat-drive season...
(Parking) Lots?
Hello,
I've been reading a lot about planned developements for everything South of K Street, but haven't read anything about the parking lot at NY Ave between 5th and 6th or the lot/building at 5th between L and NY Ave. Does anyone know who owns those/if there are any plans for them?

Jazz In The Garden
Marion Street Intergenerational Garden
Friday, April 23
Music starts at 7pm, Storytelling art begins at 7:30pm
Several weeks ago banished?productions began exhibiting "ballades mechanique ver 2.0", a wonderful story-telling machine installation that tells three simple stories using shadows projected on one of the garden's walls. These stories of what always is, what used to be and what is to come trace the evolution and the oral history of the empty lot the garden is starting to occupy.
Join CiityBlossoms and local neigbhors for one of the last shows on Friday April 23rd. The art piece will be set up and starting at 7:30pm. From 7-9pm, this event will also feature Live Brazilian Jazz from DC Choro Ensemble: Gigi Macaxeira -- accordeon and vocals, Andy Mocoto -- sax and clarinet, Bryan Mugunza -- harmonica, Pablo Rapadura -- cavaco, Richard Sarapatel -- 7 string guitar.
Children are welcome. This will be relaxed potluck-style so bring something to share if you'd like and we'll bring some snacks too! Can't make it in person? Check out pictures on banished?productions facebook page and be a fan!
Does anyone know what is happening with the very large tree behind the new houses under construction at 4th and N? It looked like they had to cut it back to make room for the new homes, which makes sense, but looking at it last night, it appears it has been cut back even more on the alley side. Are there plans to remove the tree entirely? I understand it is on someone's private property, but it would be ashame since it is such a beautiful large mature tree that appears really healthy.
Thanks.
Dunbar High Track
I have found some older posts but nothing recent about public use of the Dunbar High track. Does anyone use this facility, and if so what hours? I am particularly interested in early morning use.
M St. Flats
Wondering what the sentiment is on this new complex (http://mstreetflats.com/) at 444 M St. NW. Seems like there's a significant lack of inventory in the Mount Vernonarea, and they are being finished right behind the second phase of the Yale Steam Lofts. Just hit the MLS today... seems like prices vary from $329,900 for a Jr. 1Br. to $549,000 for a penthouse. Thoughts? Potential Good Deal or Not? What have folks heard about the developer?
In need of heat!
Ugh! Thanks to this crazy storm my furnace maxed out and now I have no heat. I'm not sure what's wrong - hopefully its just that the pilot is out. Does anyone have a service technician to recomend? Its a Carrier brand in case that matters. Thanks!
Shovel Snow Please
Hi All:
Who owns the building on the corner of 6th & M Street NW? I'm talking about the one that is like a bluish-gray color. They need to shovel. I've nearly busted my butt a few times coming up that corner. Is there any point in calling 311 to complain? Thanks!
Best,
Tamden
Dear Residents of Mount Vernon!
My friend and I are relatively new to the area and we are looking for a place to rent near or around Mount Vernon (we really like this part of town!). This task might prove itself easier if I (in particular) was not such a budget. Thus comes our request! If you or someone you know happens to have an empty house/room/attic or basement apt available we would very likely be interested in living there! **Also, if it's a space in dire straights both of us have a lot of experience on fixing up places as well! If you'd like to strike a deal on making a particular space more livable and thus easier to rent in the future (if desired) then please email or call me! Along with really low rent ($700 or less for both of us...) We are looking for approx. a 6 month time span.
A little bit about us: Both of us are from Asheville, North Carolina. I (Roxanne) graduated from UNC Chapel Hill this past May with degrees in Photojournalism and Studio Art and am trying to create a start with freelance photography. I could also do an art trade for partial rent if someone happened to be interested in custom paintings (on or off the wall). My friend Hana went to school at Vanderbilt and is currently an international intern for the Alliance to Save Energy; she also speaks Russian, has worked in the green building industry and can cook yummy thai food.
My email is roxanneturpen@gmail.com and you can reach me anytime at 919.923.9849 -we are looking to move in by Feb 1st (if not sooner) so please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or quotes if you know of anything!
Thanks so much Mt Vernon!
Curious what people's thoughts are on this condo complex. See that it has been on the market for a little while, and that there were some issues with zoning/etc. when it was being built. Any perspectives/news?
