C Nigro city center update- huge project 9th & ny, 2nd largest in country. Retail plans, they are starting lease signing. High end, unique. High rents. Exceeding dc hiring reqs. Tours of project available. Marketing condos after labor day. Excavation almost done, building up in a few weeks. Condos/apts. no affordable units, paying into housing trust fund. Grocery ala grand central in nyc.
Hoagie house -Steve May, Fathi development. Bldg is gutted. doing 4apts, ground floor coffeshop or something like Big Bear. Not intending to apply for liquor license because of past transgressions (shaw's tavern) On the lot, to build 3 addl rowhouses like Truxton Row across the st. Fencing will look like NJ & N (they did that one & 3 more on 4th). Problems with lot lines, extensive survey done, working out with adjacent neighbors and builders in next lot over. Parking not required. (Steve cited a regulation but I'll also point out that the block has no alley at all.)
C: Make sure snow is removed (if we get any)
Footprint of hoagie house is almost 1500 sq ft. 3rd level will be 1 large unit, 1 smaller units on 2nd floor, 1 rental & 1 retail on 1st floor. They will fully build out footprint and restore the open glass storefront.
Dick Munn - starting a Village. Went to a meeting regarding Villages (aging in place). Network of services, resources, social activities. Wants to form a committee. idea: Large bldg subscription availability to market to potential tenant retirees? 6 existing villages in DC.
Q is the concept to develop shoppers for old folks ?
A subscribing to a network, one stop for different things powered by volunteers. Would need to hire an ED
C:Works best with a lot of density.
C:The idea is for younger people to volunteer and take care of the older people.
Computer help
Dupont Village is 5-600/yr, anecdotally it has been positive financially for members when the resources are used
Lots of social activities, Walking groups, Dupont publishes a calendar to fundraise (they do an auction too)
Q:What about extending an existing village into our area? would that be easier?
New village starting in Georgetown, you can attend their mtg to learn about process on the 28th Feb 7pm at St Stephen Church 25th& PA ave (foggy bottom assn.)
Motion to form a village committee headed by dick munn, email dickmunn@mailcity.com to get involved. passed unanimously
Marge Maceda– ADUs (affordable dwelling units) are asking to change the covenants from 20 years to 10 yrs and allow renting. (life changes, sometimes you have to rent your place out) Might ask MVSNA to support new legislation proposed by Michael Brown. (City Vista has a bunch of ADU units, another problem is that they are at the mercy of steep condo fee increases)
City blossoms is running an herb CSA again this year, Marion st garden between P, Q, 6th & 7th. 50 dollars, pick up delicious herbs weekly, contact Lola Bloom lola@cityblossoms.org
Mtg adjourned
There are examples of before and after on Bladensburg Rd NE and Calvert S NW in the post

Green Median Renovation: Existing medians that are finished with a hardscape such as brick, concrete or pavers can be renovated by removing this impermeable surface, and replacing with a turf or mulched surface and planting street trees. These changes to the streetscape will result in reductions to the amount of stormwater entering the sewer system and ultimately the District’s waterways. The increase in planting locations will result in an expansion in the Urban Tree Canopy. This project delivers substantial reductions in the blighted look that can result when there are multiple travel lanes which reduces the potiential for tree cover.Green Median Renovation 44,203 $ 636,386.37 $14.40

Did Commissioner Nigro repeat the same pablum that CM Michael Brown uttered about "DC jobs" or did she share a factual physical document with accurate numbers?
The political opportunists looking to suck up to developers become their pr folks. Most of the "DC jobs" are for low wage workers. The high income jobs are still going to residents in MD and VA -- which means that their income gets taxed in other states, but not here. This represents a FAILURE for the Mayor and electeds down the food chain and their front wo/men to make opportunities available for DC residents to be trained into moderate or higher income jobs. More of the same. Development is good, but with BILLIONS coming into Shaw and its surroundings, more better paying jobs would be going to residents if DC were like surrounding states.
