Dunbar HS Student Tevin Durant

Dunbar High School Student Tevin Durant was in court Tuesday regarding the #Oct29QStNWBurglary

Yesterday, DC Superior Court Judge Kimberly Knowles (probably no relation, but just as stunning as the pop diva/mom) indicated there was probable cause for holding Dunbar High School student Tevin Durant til his Nov 28 probation hearing (on previous offense) and his Dec 15 hearing on the Oct 29 Q St NW burglary. The defense attorney indicated in open court that Durant is currently a regular student at Dunbar, but Judge Knowles — in the interest of protecting the community — decided that being in school was not enough reason (in addition to private info from discussion attorneys had w/ judge at the bench) to release Durant. Durant is being charged as an adult, despite being in high school. Durant was apprehended by MPD after the burglary and after officers saw him "walking not running" near Dunbar — still wearing his skull-cap/ski-mask rolled up off his face and the same clothes he was wearing at the scene of the crime. (#brilliant) A lot of robbers/burglars are smart enough to bring an extra cover of clothing or a stash nearby, to change their appearance and try to evade police.

Officials appearing in court Tuesday, confirmed everything from the initial complainants report, except the bit about the weapon. I'd imagine if MPD found a weapon on Durant, that would be cause alone for holding him and for additional charges.

Is it time for ANC2C and local civic groups to consider filing community impact statements?

Durant's four accomplices are apparently still at large. Keep your eyes open and call 911 of you see ANYTHING suspicious in the area.

Initial report from victims on #Oct29QStNWBurglary:

This evening around 7:30 a group of 5 men tried to break into our home. They rang the doorbell, [my husband] answered, and the "leader" stuck his foot into the house, and pushed against the door. [my husband] asked what they wanted and the leader said "we're coming in." [My son] and I were downstairs, and when they heard [my son] ask what was happening, the leader said, "there are kids" and the group dispersed.

[My husband] called the police and within 10 min the police had caught the leader, who had a fully loaded weapon. The other 4 remain at large.

5 mins before the men knocked on our door, [My husband and son] had gotten home from grocery shopping. [They] noticed a group of 5 guys on the corner of 5 and Q, but didn't think too much about it.

Comments
Robbery is definitely too prevalent and too easy to get away with in the area. I think the ANC taking a stance and condemning it is a great idea. This account is disturbing.
