I got a call from the Rev. Walter Fauntroy asking me to come to this march put on by DC Vote. (The reverend does not extend his support for civil rights beyond straight people so I wont be joining this event.) Expect congestion near Dunbar high school Saturday Aug 28th at 11am. Also this update from ANC 6C Planning, Zoning & Environment chair (and ANC 6C02 candidate!) Rob Amos:
I have also been working with the logistics folks and Councilman Thomas' office to lessen the impact of the planned congestion on the residents of the "chimney" area of Ward 6.
MPD Special Operations officers will be in the area and all buses are to park at the Armstrong/CAPS school parking lots.
We will certainly be monitoring the activity along Dunbar that day to help alleviate any issues that will certainly present themselves.
Thanks Rob!

Subject: March and Activity in Washington (this weekend on Saturday)
Hello Everyone,
Please find relevant information pertaining to scheduled activity in the District for this coming Saturday (the 28th).
Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN), along with other civil rights leaders, clergy and progressive activists are to hold the "Reclaim the Dream Rally" and march on August 28, 2010, at the Lincoln Memorial. MPD will increase it's presence during the event due to opposing groups filing paperwork with the city to hold their own counter protest in close proximity.
MPD advised that the group mentioned above will leave Dunbar High School in the 1300th block of New Jersey Ave., NW. The planned ‘step-off’ is scheduled for 11:00 AM. Attendance is expected to be between 5,000 to 7,000 participants.
The scheduled route is south on New Jersey Ave., NW, to New York Ave., NW. The marchers will move west on New York Ave. to 15th St. and south on 15th St. to the proposed site of the MLK Monument on the Tidal Basin.
Traffic in the downtown area will be blocked, in rolling street closures, as the parade moves along that route. MPD advised that the parade is expected to move slowly. The marchers will traverse through the National Mall where the "Tea Party" rally is taking place between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
The street route will be handled by MPD; the one block area between 15th St. and the White House will be managed by the Secret Service while the front of the White House will be managed by the US Park Police. This could set the stage for potential confusion given the various ‘hand-offs’ between the authorities.
MPD does not anticipate ‘trouble,’ other than potential gridlock.
US Park Police has brought in additional officers from New York and San Francisco to support enforcement.
Additionally, an anarchist group is reported to conduct a staging at 17th St., NW, and Constitution Ave., NW, at 9:00 AM to "shut down the event at the Lincoln Memorial." This is a new web posting, and MPD was not aware of this activity at the time of our briefing.
We have encouraged our security officers to leave early for their respective assignments on Saturday afternoon, given the likely traffic disruption. We will also increase normal vigilance. Although most facilities will be secured through access control, we recommend any buildings not secured during this timeframe to consider securing your facilities with access control throughout Saturday.
Please feel free to share this email with all that would benefit. In addition, please direct questions on this subject to me. All the best ~ Daman.
