Just got this from a neighbor SAS on the 1200 block of 4th St NW:
On a sadly typical note, WASA came through earlier this week and marked up the beautiful new side walk that (I am guessing) DDOT just laid. The side walk took two weeks to complete and is about three weeks old, and WASA will be digging the whole thing up to replace the water main below. I wish I were joking, but this is actually happening. Just some points that immediately jump to mind:
- this is a colossal waste of time
- this is a colossal waste of money
- this is a colossal waste of materials
- this is an inconvenience to residents by unnecessarily tying up our street with construction
- this is an inconvenience to residents by causing prolonged noise, especially in the early morning hours
- the mismanagement of the timing and execution of these projects is so severe it shakes the basic foundations of faith in government and competence in our fellow man
- COMMON SENSE....we expect more from second graders
That said, life will go on and we will all be fine. But I thought you could at least bring this up in the next neighborhood meeting and let the appropriate people know that fourth street is collectively cursing and mocking them.

this is a common occurence, same thing happened years ago when then installed brick on 5th St. WASA is supposed to restore the brick to the original condition when done, if only they would use the same contractors who installed the brick to begin with. Sadly, the workmanship is never the same.

About a year ago WASA came and dug up the brand new sidewalk on the 1400 block of 5th street. They patched it with asphalt, which I assumed was temporary. After months of the "temporaty fix" remaining, I contacted WASA. They assured me that they always replace the sidewalk back to original condition, and I assured her that in this case it was not. After that incident I started to notice asphalt patches on every block where WASA has come in and not done what they are supposed to. I suggest if you have one on your block you contact WASA and complain.

the other weird thing is that instead of removing the bricks, they cut them. months & months later after the inevitable complaints about fugly asphalt, when they get around to putting them back, we get this patchwork effect. it just sucks.

Is there someone in DC that should know about this?!?! I know at my job I would get chewed a new one if we operated at this level of ineeficiency. I can't figure out which is worse - the fact that this happens or that noone in DC Gov seems to care/notice.

we did get some response from DC Gov but nothing that satisfies the level of outrage many of us are feeling at the waste of our utility & taxpayer dollars. MVSNA voted to send a scathing letter of discontent and one or more of us will be attending the WASA forum next week on the 26th.
