Gang Tagging

Gang Tagging

Does anybody know if the city will remove gang tagging?  I live on Ridge Street and the,”5th n O” critters are at it again. We have new markings on the side of 413 A Ridge St, 1212 4th St and 1230 4th St.  I thought the best way to stop future tagging is to remove the present tagging ASAP.  I may not have this correct but my neighbor tells me he called the city 311 line and was told it is the responsibility of the homeowner to have it removed.

You can fill out an online city service request for Graffiti removal at the city's 311 website.(http://311.dc.gov/cwi/citizenweb/ui/citizenwebintake.aspx)

The form allows you to select either public or private space. I don't know that they remove graffiti from private space but they may. If I were you, I would mark the form as public space (after all, if you look at city planning documents, public space runs right up to most building walls) and see what happens.

A number of people used this link when the billboards were still up at 4th & P St. and the city usually responded within a day.

Alternatively I believe the city will provide you with supplies to clean walls if they won't do it.

Good Luck!

The 311 person gave you the wrong information...DPW will remove gang-tagging for you. I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible, but I suggest contacting the following: MPD: jacob.kishter@dc.gov and diane.groomes@dc.gov; DPW: francisco.fimbres@dc.gov, michael.stover@dc.gov, and casandra.ball@dc.gov. It's not clear who actually got the graffiti removed from our garage door, but they were all part of the email string. Report all the gang-tagging you now of to them.

Good luck,
Mark (5th and O...though not part of the gang)
