I too am delighted to see this development. But I'm curious to know what advance notice, if any, the MVSNA and/or residents along this stretch of 4th St. received. Although this is certianly a positive development for the community, I'm wondering if is yet another example of the city failing to communicate.

no one told us about it...but there was a service request (or 5) submitted years ago. neighbors have been told there is a huge sidewalk replacement backlog. not sure if ANC 6C got notice.

This was really nice to see, but it didn't take long for more broken glass to show up along it. It seems like you can't walk half a block around here without broken glass some place on the sidewalk.

UGH! These brick pavers are the WORST! Have you ever tried to shovel snow on pavers? First of all, the specific heat of pavers is lower than regular cement so the ice doesn't melt as fast as it does on regular sidewalks. Other people's sidewalks will be clear of snow but yours won't. The bricks pop up out of place, and cause people to trip and fall, and guess what? You're liable, not the city. When you try to shovel snow, the bricks catch your shovel and you stop dead in your tracks, over and over and over again. In the summer plants and roots shove up more bricks so that they come out creating holes and gaps in the sidewalk. These bricks deteriorate over time and the whole spot expands and you've got a whole mess to deal with. Just try to get the city to come back and fix that! Oh, they will, later, by pouring asphalt in the wholes. Great. Try pushing a grocery cart or baby carriage over a bumpy sidewalk of pavers. Not fun. They better not put these things on Ridge Street or I'll dig them up and pour cement in their place.

I just hope they turn the corner and re-do the neglected stretch of M Street, between 4th & New Jersey. The sidewalks are in rough shape.
