As someone relatively new to the area, can anyone tell me the deal with the store at 5th & N? There are a number of times I've wanted to go there to do some light shopping, but it feels like in the last few months they've only been open maybe a couple of days.

Cyrus, I live next door and I wish I knew the answer. The owner's father was not well and the store was open sporadically for several months. It has not been open at all in the past two or three months and it does not appear that the owner has even come by the check the mail. An eviction notice for nonpayment of rent was left on the property 2 weeks ago and the phone line is disconnected. E-mails left for the owner have not been returned. It is very unfortunate. The store was run by a good family for many years. They know the residents, support the community, and had begun to renovate the store and upgrade its inventory. If anyone has additional information, please let us know.

Thanks for the information, Cary. I thought they might only be open in the middle of the day, but since those sidewalks seem to be the last place to "de-thaw" after the snows, it made me think it has kind of been abandoned.

That really is a bummer. The young guy who took over for his dad had great ideas and was such a nice guy! I wish the family well and hope to see them back soon!
