Dumont under water

Well The Dumont is under water, literally even! According to a Washington Business Journal article (about distressed commercial property value - up in august - woo hoo!), the vacant condo at 425 Mass Ave, The Dumont has a $186 million dollar mortgage.  This is quite a chunk more than the $170 million dollar asking price for this swank building with a leaky basement.  Residents & the MVTCID have complained to the city about the water pumped out of The Dumont into the street well things where it pools and has formed moldy algae lakes.  ew.  Makes me wonder about the mold in the basement....yet another chapter in a long dysfunctional saga for this building.  How does such a massive mess get fixed?

I've heard a lot of complaints about the building from neighbors. Its a shame its sitting vacant and rotting, literally. The only lights that seem to be on are the roof lights and street lights. I'll get my checkbook out and write that check for $170 million, as if anyone has that kind of cash lying around these days, and even if I did this wouldn't be my top choice.
