Hello, I am not sure if I can make the meeting on Tuesday, but as someone who lives on Ridge Street with a dog, I fully support the dog park at Bundy. The dog park in Shaw is nice but can be a rather far walk and to have one closer would be great. Thanks.

How do we find the dog park petition to sign? Thanks.

The dog park idea appears dead. The petition is available on The Friends of Bundy Park website here: http://friendsofbundy.wordpress.com/
However, it appears the idea for a park at that location, in the vacant lot behind the Bundy School, will not move forward. The District government apparently promised the entire lot to Safe Shores to use as yet another parking lot.
Not smart.
(1) We need another surface parking lot in Shaw like we need a whole in the wall, or a bullet, which is what was flying over there last night. In fact, DC's Comprehensive Plan sets a goal of reducing surface parking lots in Shaw and, specifically with respect to the Bundy site, suggests a residential or recreational use. Ah, but plans are designed to not happen in our neighborhood.
(2) The idea that there is a lack of residential parking in the area around the Bundy School does not accord with reality. The block is usually at least half to 2/3 empty. That's because there are only 4 house on the 400 Block of O and 3 on the 400 Block of P. Houses on the 1300 Block of 5th largely have alley parking. Most of the surrounding area is Bundy Park, Bundy School, Montgomery School (also has parking), and 2nd NW across the street has its own parking lots (where the shooting last night occurred).
(3) Some say Safe Shore's employees need parking. There will be 55-60 full time employees and volunteers. How many of you who work downtown expect to receive free parking? The Bundy School is walking distance to 2 metro stops and located near several bus lines. It's called mass transit, and its green.
(4) Safe Shores will also have many visitors, abused children, police officers, etc. Where will they park? This is a a valid point. It could be accommodated by setting aside a portion of the Bundy Lot for visitor parking. There would also be adequate street parking.
MVSNA has sent a letter to DC government officials in support of a dog park, in concept, at this vacant lot and we have plead with them not to give us another surface lot, which only provides more underdevelopment, more crime, and lower property values. I don't expect the DC government to reverse itself, however.
