Come to the meeting (or contact Theresa DuBois) if you're concerned about: 1) the recent homicide or other criminal activity immediately outside or on surrounding blocks around the Convention Center, 2) DDOT and MPD management of this weekend's UHOP parade, 3) the lack of street level retail on the perimeter of the Convention Center building, 4) the potential for job training and opportunities in the future Convention Center area hotels.
Many community issues also potentially affect tourista and convention goers who are the valuable patrons of the Convention Center and the City. When City leaders don't respond in a meaningful way to our concerns about our safety and quality of life, they might be more responsive when our concerns our linked to local tourism which insulates the District somewhat from the economic meltdown in states like California and other cities.
"Invited Guests: The Honorable Councilmember Jack Evans, Ward Two Terry Bellamy, Associate Director, Transportation Operations Administration, DDOT "Come learn about the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and share your comments with key decision makers. A portion of the meeting is devoted to Citizens’ Participation, which is an opportunity to have your voice heard. Representatives from the Executive Office of the Mayor, Council of the District of Columbia and the WCCA are routinely present to address issues such as traffic management, parking enforcement, public safety, and event-related activities that may impact the community."
If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may submit your comments or concerns via –mail to: Theresa DuBois, tdubois@dcconvention.com, (202) 249-3200 (Community Hotline)
