SLAYING

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Shooting-Near-the-Convention-Center.html

there's a mean looking group of gangsters around the convention center.  1 group gathers at 8and N and the other gathers at 7th and M.  not sure what good all the free tickets to the Nationals ball games are delivering to the community when we end up in killings.  the peaceaholics are failing.

i waited for another person to say something about the killing on this blog...24 hrs is enough.

After seeing that on the news Thursday, I purposefully drove around 8+N, 7+M last night. At 7+N there were tons of kids hanging on the corner. There was also WAY more foot traffic from shady looking people on the east side of 7th between M and N. In addition there was a ton of kids hanging out at Subway. It didnt look like your typical crowd of kids with nothing to do. It looked like kids/young adults waiting...watching. The cops were of course stationed at Gibson plaza. They need more and more cops walking a beat and driving around these few blocks, especially with the nicer weather. There are about 4 gangs within a 5 block radius in this neighborhood and it seems like they are all pissed at each other. I thought we had moved past this!

Direct quotes:
"The level of crime is unacceptable. ... Even if crime is generally going down, it's still way to high for the quality of life. ... We were telling our police leadership this: We're not going to get into this issue of "how many resources are available" . We want to do two things: 1) We should show you a strong visibility and presence in the neighborhoods. You should see the police "walking the beat." If you don't see the police department walking the beat, the Mayor, the Police Chief — we're simply not doing our jobs. ... That's what you deserve and that give the neighbors a comfort level and criminals want to move elsewhere. ... The second thing is, the gang problems that you've seen, and the open air drug markets, ... those have to be eliminated. It's not enough for the government to know about them. It's not enough for the government to say that we don't like them or that we're trying to do something about it, we have to eliminate them. ... That's the only response that the community will accept. ... We're not going to stop till we eliminate the gang problem and it's our job to figure out how to do it."

I have seen those people hanging out at 8th and N in the late afternoon on Sundays on my way to the 6 pm mass at Immaculate Conception. Some of them simply looked like bored kids hanging out, some of them look a lot more sinister.

I live on 7th Street and my balcony overlooks the back portion of that park. To be honest with you, they are a bunch of trouble makers, the whole lot of them. Even the kids are rude and lawless. They smoke weed and do other assorted things in the back portion of the park where the fence is torn. I had to email the city to repair the gate behind our building that due to this problem. These loiterers need to be moved somewhere else, kids or otherwise. please call the police department to complain along with emailing city officials. I have all the email addresses needed.
