Historic K Street

The next HP Agenda includes the recently discussed 4th street projects as well as landmark nominations for the historic buildings on the 600 block of K street NW.  This stretch is part of Douglas Development's plans to redevelop squares 450/451 and the intention is to move the waffle shop to that block.  RR wasn't this block also the site for DC Cab?

yes Si. the "home base" for DC Cab in the movie was what is now a car detailer business which is currently if not mistaken painted white. back when it was in the movie it was blue with dark blue trim with DC Cab painted in the eastern wall. oh so that's where the Waffle Shop is going? great!
i was afraid it was going to be relocated to the 600 block of L.

I rewatched DC cab last night fast forwarding through some of the non-DC specific scenes. The "home base" station in the move was atleast 4 times bigger than the car detailer's building. It had a more elaborate facade as well.

I always thought the "garage" parts were filmed in Stockton CA - the roads have some twists and turns that you don't see in DC too often.

i remember seeing it and i was here. i have never been to stockton, california...i'm sure they used a technique called editing. i was at the willard working when they filmed the part on F street. yes, i am old. haha

There are utility pole all around the garage in the movie. I thought overhead wires weren't allowed in the L'Enfant portion of the city. If the neighborhood around the garage looks different, the facade looks different, and the inside of the garage looks far too big then they sure did alot of editing...

Another only semi-related question: When was the NPR building built?

Posted By Paul / At 4/9/09 3:35 PM
