A guest and I were at Busboy's & Poets and he was telling me the first ever Toys'R'Us was located across the street in what is now just a parking lot, back in the '50's. Do you know that, RR?

Unrelated: 5th St Hardware has some great garden flowers, garden and kichen herbs for sale. pansies, lavendar, rosemary and more.

The first Toys 'R Us was in Adams Morgan at 2461 18th Street, NW. Charles Lazarus opened it in his father's bicycle shop. See the Adams Morgan Heritage Trail. Booklets at culturaltourismdc.org

I wasn't able to find confirmation of this online, but did find several references to the Madam's Organ location, referenced by Brendan. There were several DC locations of Toys R Us, then known as Children's Bargain Town or Children's Supermarket (4-6, I believe), so it is possible that one of the first stores operated in our area. The first actual store operating as Toys R Us was in Rockville. It would be neat to track down an old photo.
