Ridge Street Tree Canopy

 Neighbors and Friends,

I need to vent. This is my saga of a service request for dying trees on Ridge St.

I submitted a service request on 06/11/07 for inspection of numerous dead and dying trees. I called again 04/22/08 I was told the trees were inspected 10/02/07 and it takes 9 to 12 months for the trees to be trimmed and/or removed.

I did a follow up on 09/10/08. I was then informed 7 trees were to be pruned...It takes 9 to 12 months , sometimes a little longer

I followed up again on 02/10/2009 I was informed that one of three supervisors would call me.

On 02/11/2009 William   ..... called. He said he remembered inspecting the trees. He said it has been so long they might have to be removed. I agreed and said most had died. He said the District has not had a pruning contract for 6 months. Try back in a few months. I asked if there was anything I could do to expedite and he suggest I call other people and my ANC commissioner. This service request has been open for 20 months! Please be aware of falling tree limbs when walking or parking on Ridge Strees. Consider this my call for help.

I had a tree service request reported and taken care of btwn May and Oct 2008 in ANC2C. In addition to yr ANC rep, try the MOCRS; one of the MOCRS Ward 2 reps was helpful when the service request was due to be completed.

They have not updated this contact info page with replacements for outgoing staff in Ward 2, but this should happen soon.

It took several years of effort for one of the Kirby Street residents to get the City to realize that several of the trees on Morgan Street NW were accidents waiting to happen. He recently received a letter stating that they were going to remove the dangerous trees. He persevered and finally got the promise of action ... now we'll see how long it takes to act.

Perhaps its time to organize another tree planting? we could work on removal of the dead ones during the spring and aim for a mass planting in the fall or next year with Casey trees. we did a planting of 14 trees in 2004 which was lots of fun. We have a park planting coming up, I'll post the details later today.

An update on Ridge Street trees. I was contacted by Vera yesterday in person from the city as she was placing signs on 5 trees on Ridge Street that are scheduled to be removed next week. She said other trees on the street are scheduled to be trimmed. Unfortunately, it may take over a year the removed trees replaced because the district is booked up for this season's planting. Please note the "No Parking" signs that have been attached to the trees scheduled to be removed along Ridge Street. Thanks to the people who posted comments.
