This is great news for everyone in the community! The CityPaper's Housing Complex blog has the full story on a new design contest announced on Friday for Dunbar High School. Maybe by the time the new building is actually built the school itself will have turned around too? I know that management of the school was taken over this fall by a NYC charter school called "Friends of Bedford", but I haven't been able to find much more information on how the transition is going. Anyone have inside information to report?

I've had some conversations with staff at the school and they are very pleased with what the turnaround has been. Walls were put up in the "open" classrooms, discipline is in place (uniforms as well I believe), outside lunch periods and such (which allowed the kids to escape into the neighborhood have been cut out or reduced). They are very happy and glad the NY team took over. The principal is willing to come to one of the MVSNA meetings to talk about the school and changes.

I am SO excited by this news! DCPS students deserve much better than the current massive bunker with chunks peeling off. Rob if you could do the honors we'd be ever so grateful! If not, pls send me the contact info & I'll be happy to.
