We stopped by for the soft opening and met the maners and owners and thanked them. the place is great and the food was terrific. We already met a few more neighbors that we did not know. i think that we will go back tonight.

I had dinner there last night. It's very nice and we'll have to hold a MVSNA event there soon. The upstairs is loungie -- a good place to bring a laptop and work during the day. There appears to be a room that can be used for private functions on the first floor. The outdoor seating was not there at the time - probably because it was a cold, rainy day.
When looking out the restaurant window, the view (a huge parking lot) could use improvement. One idea is to ask the owner of the lot to landscape at least the 5th Street perimeter, possibly with cyprus or other trees to hide (or eliminate) the barb wire, chain link fence. It might vastly improve the CityVista streetscape, at least until that lot is someday developed. My understanding is that DC zoning law requires parking lots to have 5% landscaping and there's zero at that particular lot. Thoughts?

we have hummingbird visitors due to trumpet vine we planted a few years ago. the vines are like $6. bucks each, grow rapidly and masks an ugly fence nicely. honeysuckle is another product that covers nicely at a low price.

Funny you should mention this Cary. I made a suggestion to the MVT CID that the barbed wire fencing was blightful and not truly needed now that there are more eyes on the streets. The CID pushed it up the chain to Steuart Development. Steuart's response was they felt the fence is still needed for safety.
Of course a mere suggestion from a resident doesn't go as far as a neighborhood association that is willing to a) call them on a zoning regulation and b) maybe work with them to get a grant...

absolutely agree that it would be a good idea for mvsna to try and get the landscaping rules enforced (didnt know about this?), coming frommultiple fronts, maybe DNA as well could get soemthing done. but i have to draw the line at helping a developer get a grant for greenery, especially the steuarts who have sat on their MVT property for eons. And merely asking them what their plans are doesnt go over so well.

That was mostly just a throw away line. I suppose I just mean use both the stick and carrot. What kind of carrot is truly appropriate I don't really know...
