Work Begins on Chevy Chase Bank at City Vista

Probably the least exciting of all new businesses at City Vista but work has begun on a Chevy Chase Bank at (I believe) 1059 5th Street.

Its the closest business to Safeway on 5th and one up from 5th St. Hardware.

I haven't been over to the site since Sunday. But I think the Chevy Chase address will be 1075 5th St NW. I took a picture of the posted electrical permits, but I'm still rather clueless how to properly take photos through glass or on it - so they have monster glare and aren't legible.

I vote for an HSBC or Chase. We already have enough Chevy Chases in this city!

4th & Eye -- Put your lens right on the glass after dusting it off a bit, set your RF illuminator to the highest setting (if you can change it) and force the flash off. Through the glass photos are best at night. Try it and see.

I'd rather it be a Wachovia as well

I thought there was going to be a SunTrust Bank inside the Safeway. Is that still true -- or is that what the Chevy Chase bank is?

Thanks Nicholas for the camera tips.

What do we think the retail space between the Chevy Chase bank and the Safeway entrance will be? Perhaps either the Bergmann's or Starbucks that are planned with the Safeway or something else?

Longer term I think the space that the City Vista Sales office can be converted to another use after sales are completed.

Not sure where the Bergmann's will be located, but I think the Starbucks is really just a kiosk inside the Safeway -- you can see it near the entrance if you look through the glass.

I'm happy that it’s a chevy chase. To the earlier post who said ..."We already have enough Chevy Chases in this city!" All the more to switch.

A Starbucks needs to replace Jack Evans campaign headquarters ASAP. I wish they'd get some blinds or something. They leave the place a trashy mess every single evening. I'd like to see a Coldstone go into the sales office space!!!!!!

It is slated to be a SunTrust inside the Safeway. I recently saw a Safeway that is supposed to be identical to ours on the Eastern Shore. As you walk inside the front door, there is a SunTrust with two tellers on the back wall--open a lot of Saturday and half of Sunday--a Bergman's drop off and pickup and a small Starbucks counter.

No, not Starbucks ... please change it to a Caribou instead.

For the past 8 months, I have been trying to get a Jamba Juice in the convention center retail slots or somewhere in this area.

It seemed they were really close to getting something on paper at the convention center, but then it suddenly went sour. As you know, every single JJ has closed in this area because of Whole Foods and JJ's turbulent relationhip.

I invite my neighbors to send an email to the real estate department of JJ (realestate *at* jambajuice *dot* com) or give them a ring at 1-877-735-2622.

A JJ is better than yet another damn Starbucks or a Smoothie King that serves up fruit syrups and a lot of artificial stuff. If you've had JJ before, you know what I'm talking about.

Also, I encourage you to ring up Safeway's Arizona call center and support the CityVista store being 24 hours. If not, then just be happy with that Giant with lines that resemble a 1980s Moscow bread line. Use this link (http://shop.safeway.com/corporate/safeway/shopping_contact_form.asp?cat=General Service) or use 1-877-723-3929.

I'm tired of going to Virginia every single time to buy little things after midnight. And I don't know if you will believe this, but Harris Teeter is oftentimes more expensive than Whole Foods but doesn't even approach the quality of Whole Foods. As for the Giant, I don't even bother going there unless it's an extreme emergency. The route to walk there is full of trash and headaches (and flying bullets), the parking lot looks like The Meadowlands back in the 1990s, and the lines are just unacceptable.

24 hour Safeway!

It WAS supposed to be a SunTrust. According to the City Vista sales office, a few months ago Sun Trust backed out, and Chevy Chase gladly took the space already allotted for a bank. There will not be a Sun Trust in the City Vista complex.

I second the post on Jamba Juice. How could Whole Foods do that to us??? We also tried to get info. on them opening in other locations in the city and were told that they had plans to open some independent locations, but that was a couple of years ago, and still nothing. Smoothie King is the worst, but Robek's isn't that bad, even though it's no Jamba.
