the west end on the southside of the 400 block of M street nw was very quiet this year. the new people in the penthouse at 442 M had some people over for a very very small, nice celebration event. no tossing cherry bombs, rocket launchers or the fire cracker arrogance you'd find elsewhere.

it seemed quieter this year & we were very fortunate to get some intermittent rain to cut down on the fire hazards...

We had the traditional explosive fireworks on our block on both the 4th and the 5th. It was pretty calm last night though. There seemed to be a big celebration at the corner of Morgan and New Jersey though - at least the pile of debris suggests that that was a primary point of activity.
