Quick Neighborhood View/News

Just recently, the neighborhood troublemakers have returned.  They were gone for about two months, but they have all returned.  Recently, a bike stolen from a neighbor of mine (surprise, surprise), a neighbor's car's starter was heavily damaged, a car was set ablaze, neighbors harassed and yelled at (usually homophobic nonsense), and the general tresspassing and prowling has come back really heavy.

We haven't seen the congressman that continually tells the residents of any house 408-444 N Street to move out and hand over the keys.  There is an active warrant for his breaking of the windows at 430 N Street NW, still no word if he was ever arrested.

The alley between Ridge and N Streets NW is a favorite travel route of the trouble makers, as well as a new marketplace for drugs.  They also enjoy throwing their trash around in the alley.  Between 2 and 4 a.m., the alley is a virtual buffet for the same three to five kids looking into cars parked behind Ridge Street Row and along its side.  Apparently, they hope that they'll discover something appetizing one day and break a window.  It's no coincidence that the 1230 4th Street house is nearby.  As I write this, the house sits with no improvement to its cellar/basement entry regardless of the promises of the owner.  It is possible that the owner did do something, but the cockroach people have penetrated once again.

Those cars you see just sitting around on 5th or N Streets and idling are usually here to buy powders, herbs, crystals, or what-have-you.  It is seriously doubted all that money that changes hands near the corner shop is just innocent, "Hey man I need change for $50 to go to the laundromat up on Georgia Avenue" stuff.

You're of course looking at a map of the northern boundary (N Street NW) of Mount Vernon Square, the usual suspected range of the crime cameras (and of course, they can be changed as MPD needs), and some other interesting points.

Yellow blocks -- Suspected residences of neighborhood trouble makers
Red areas -- Suspected usual range of crime cameras
Red arrows -- Favorite hangout and loiter spots of neighborhood trouble makers
Yellow arrows -- Hangout spots of neighborhood trouble makers during the day only
Blue arrows -- Recent incident locations

Can you identify the arrows?  Do you know of any more?  These are just the ones I know of.  Any other maps I need to add?  This would be on my website, but it has been down for quite some time as I dealt with some health issues.  It's hopefully coming back next month.

Nick, I'll be glad to help you point out the troublespots of the other part of our neighborhood - the "Chimney"

Rich -- you sure do advocate a lot of demo in the city.

Rob -- Absolutely! I've only heard of the term/area "Chimney" I have no clue where it is. Where is it?

very useful - we should bring this to our neighborhood. where did you get the photo? As one of many people who looked at the little house on Ridge St that was sold fall 06, this is helpful
