Bishop S.C. Sweet Daddy Madison Passes Away

I learned today that Bishop Samuel C. Madison, the leader of the United House of Prayer, passed away.  There is a black sash across the church on the 600 Block of M Street NW.  I have not been able to find out much more, but according to one website, services are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday April 9th, 2008 Augusta GA Viewing
Thursday April 10th, 2008 Charlotte NC Viewing
Friday April 11th, 2008 Newport News VA Viewing
Saturday April 12th, 2008 New York City Viewing
Sunday April 13th, 2008 Washington DC Viewing
Monday April 14th, 2008 Washington DC Homegoing

Our condolences to the members of the United House of Prayer for their loss.

According to the United House of Prayer website, Sweet Daddy Madison was pastor of the National Headquarters since 1968, became a Senior Minister in 1986, and led the organization since the passing of Bishop McCollough in 1991.  Under Bishop Madison's leadership, over 123 Houses of Prayer received major renovation or were newly constructed, as well as numerous apartments, senior citizens? dwellings, parsonages, houses, and commercial properties.

Many people from the residential properties owned by UHOP, including the ANC2C Chair Doris Brooks, are always complaining about a lack of jobs and accessible training for those in need of employment. So why weren't there more than about 20 local people taking part in the HAWDC / Convention Center FREE hospitality training industry programs one block away from UHOP? According to a resident in one of the properties, it's because Doris Brooks is incompetent and even the church itself failed its community by not getting the word out to more people. They can effectively derail park development by getting the word out and packing meetings with their followers, but helping their followers get out to get jobs and get on their feet so they can live independently and think for themselves seems not to be part of the church's PLAN.

Keeping people needy and dependent on them helps maintain their existence and the status quo. Maybe new leadership will change this, but I doubt it.

@Martin Moulton
What does the lack of participation at a job fair have anything to do with the passing of our Bishop? A free hospitality training is not the responsibility of the church its the responsibility of the person(s) hosting it. I was told about it 2 days in advance but since I have a job like most of the members do have there was no need for me to go. You can't go by any comments of one person because there is no proof that there person actually lived in the property. Did you ask to see their lease, did you go into their home and have this conversation? One thing has nothing to do with the other and you lack of respect further tells me that you are a blame placer. Whatever issues you may have about something you are not aware of its better to ask than assume. We are open nightly and welcome all any issues or questions you ahve be man enough to ask. To those who have home training and manners and sent out your condolences thank you very much there are still real human beings in the world who actually have some sense.
Have a blessed day.

Agreed. Bishop Madison's passing has nothing to do with anything political, residential, and/or generally hateful. Can't some of you give it a rest to show some respect?!?

At 86 years old, Bishop Madison saw a lot in his day. Let him rest now, and allow his legacy to live on.

To the many of you that have expressed their condolences...THANK YOU. This is a bitter/sweet moment for the members of the Hunited House of Prayer, because our BISHOP has a special place in our hearts and lives. Such as any loved one be it a friend, family member, or religious leader (in this case). But for those (Martin Moulton) that has nothing positive to say in relation to the topic of this blog....REMEMBER...you too one day will wear the shoes of Mrs. Madison (Our First Lady) when a dear friend and loved one will expire. I wonder who will offer you their HEARTFELT condolences. God Bless

First and foremost I would like to send my condolences to all the members and family of the United House of Prayer. I have a very close friend that is a member of this church and I must say that I have really enjoyed the few services that she has invited me too and I really enjoy seeing the youth of that church every year marching in your parade. I do not think that negative comments during a time of mourning is appropriate. I have seen this organization build homes and affordable living for their members, provided college scholarship money for those wanting to attend college and graduate school. Too see so many youth doing things in the name of God is a beautiful thing. I pray that every member gets through this time with peace and love. God Bless

i respect martin moulton and the passion he always brings to any community dialogue he engages in. however, one cannot blame a single religious leader for a poorly run and conceived public relations disaster job training event.

UHOP, unlike Washington Apartments, have application standards.

the seeds of the job training failure were sewn by the failed DCPS system whom i believe under chancellor rhee will improved IF the local political hacks can keep their hands off the running of the schools.

thank you bishop madison for making the neighborhood better than you found it.

As long as the comments are not personal and accurate they will stay. -- Sam, the Admin.

That said, my condolences to the Bishops family and the church.

Sincere condolences to all the UHOP family for the loss of your great leader. Criticism notwithstanding, the bishops of the UHOP have improved ALL communities where they are located. Although I am not a member, I recognize and respect the contributions made by Bishop(s) McCollough & Madison in their respective communities. To deny or discredit these accomplishments would be at best, unfair. The snubs and unflattering remarks [that I've seen posted on this and other local blogs] directed at the UHOP members is really unwarranted and shows the depth of disdain, contempt and downright lack of respect for a boldly spiritual and economic sovereign peoples.

May your good works continue as you shake the haters off.

I recently moved to Washington, DC a few years back I was amazed that a black owned church could be this prosperous. I attribute this to their Bishop. Regardless, to what the world says these people are blessed. Many people criticized them for showering thier leaders with gifts and money. But it is extremely obvious that these men only gave it back to them in the form of affordable housing, beautiful churches, scholarships, transportation for the members. This church has everything because they are blessed. I have been to several services and I do understand their "way". God has blessed these people. And for the young man to disrespect this church at a time of mourning shows great disrespect and lack of class. Mrs. Madison & the members of the House of Prayer are in my prayers.

To a wonderful man, a wonderful leader...

Daddy, I thank you for your spirtual guidance and love that you had for all your children. You gave your every breath and blood for this Holy Kingdom to make sure that we were living the way God wants us to live so that we can be found worthy. You were a teacher, preacher, doctor, lawyer and protector to all of us and most of all you cared deeply about us. Many outside the House of Prayer don't quite understand why we call you "DADDY," daddy is the spirit, to understand, one has to think in a spiritual since. You were our daddy and I will always love you and cherish all the memories we had. And for that, I shall see you again to recieve that big hug you would always give me. (SMILE)

Love,

Your daughter

Mr.Moulton, I am deeply trying to understand the comments in regards to the UHOP failing the community because we did not get the information out in regards to a job fair. I don´t know if you have ever visited the United House of Prayer for All People before, but from your comments it appears you haven´t or didnt really pay much attention. I myself am a member of the United House of Prayer and I am currently out of the country "working" and just wanted to take a moment to see what information I could find in regards to the passing of our beloved Bishop S.C.¨Daddy¨ Madison. And I must say I was a bit ¨taken back¨ by your comments. When did the responsibility of getting the message out about a job fair become our responsibility? And because no one was at the job fair still doesnt mean you didnt have the proper training available for those in need of employment. The United House of Prayer promotes education if you have ever been a part of our services our first lady (Lady D Madison) gives a reward to the kids in grade school who make the honor roll as well as maintains good behavior scores and I myself have been a recipient of the House of Prayer scholarship to further my education. If we did not have the housing available for our members we would still maintain our ¨status quo´¨. This is not the time for your political grievances. I don´t know if this is coming from a bitter place or if you are just not well versed on our teachings and beliefs, but it would be wise to check all the facts before making uneducated guesses. I am not in this particular neighborhood, but my family did have the opportunity to reside in one of the neighborhoods in a different city for a few years before my parents could purchase a home, so this is an assault on any of us HOP members who have lived in these apartments, in which the vast majority of us move out to purchase homes and upgrade our living accomodations. This organization has 1.5 million members and how many actually live in these neighborhoods is a small percentage and just because they are not at the job fair does not mean they are not trying to better themselves. (Ever thought about that? school or work maybe)Is your issue with low-income housing all together or is it just with the UHOP housing? It seems like you are not only slamming the UHOP, but to anyone who is in a low-income housing development, because the comment seems to imply that individuals in low income housing seem to complain and not take advantage of opportunity, and also that this organization has some sort of ¨conspiracy¨to maintain our status quo (in your words)by having the affordable housing available. This is a way we can help our members as well as members of the community, because not all the individuals who live in these neighborhoods are UHOP members. In no way does it seem logical that a low-income housing development has anything to do with the church keeping its status.(??) Normally if I read negative information in regards to this great organization I dont comment because we have a solid foundation. But with the passing of our bishop and the great legacy I know he had and left with us it seems to me your comments are a disrespectful and ill-mannered. We the members of the HOP are mourning our leader, but we are rejoicing for having the HONOR to share our lives, learn from and love this great man. He taugh us by putting christ first in our lives we can achieve all things. He taught us life can be beautiful and that didnt mean being complacent but thriving to achieve more in our spiritual as well as our personal lives. To you Dad-- I WANT TO SAY "THANK YOU" YOU HAVE BEEN AN INSPIRING MOTIVATION IN MY LIFE AND I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR SACRIFICING YOURSELF FOR THIS GREAT KINGDOM. NOT ALL WILL UNDERSTAND THIS, BUT THOSE OF US WHO DO, THANK YOU. WORSHIPPING GOD, CHRIST, LIVING HOLY, LOVE, AND GIVING OURSELVES UNSELFISHLY TO HIS WILL WAS AT THE TOP OF YOUR AGENDA AND FOR THAT WE THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THIS KINGDOM TO HIGHER HEIGHTS. I (WE) WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU UNMEASURABLY AND APPRECIATE WHAT BLESSINGS HAVE MANIFESTED IN OUR LIVES THROUGH YOUR TEACHINGS!! Lady Dee we want to also thank you for your tiredless contributions and being a wonderful first lady to this kingdom and we love you!

All those that posted negative comments or comments that have nothing to do or show respect for the members of this church or their bishop should be ashamed of themselves. I have never in my life witnessed so much hate for someone that 95% of you don't even know. I guess when the POPE dies we will have a blog on this site spitting the same hatred and negativity, if not then their is come racism going on that proves when a black man does something than what a white man is doing people get scared. This blog is not the time nor place for anything other than condolences. Jesus is it that hard to let these folks mourn in peace.

tavia where did i express racism or hatred, thanks in advance.
all i said was someone who claims to be a living saint should not be a liar. what saint in heaven is a liar?

@ Richard I did not address you in my comment I said "All those that posted negative comments or comments that have nothing to do or show respect for the members of this church or their bishop should be ashamed of themselves" Now if you felt that was a direct stab at you that is your conscience not mine.

Bishop Sweet Daddy Precious Madison served from his birth Febuary 24,1922 as a child of the teachings of Sweet Daddy Grace the founder and of Sweet Daddy McCollough the first elected Bishop of the United House of Prayer For All People.
Apostle S.C. Madison became the second elected Bishop of U.H.O.P.F.A.P.. His ministry was made by the grace of Deus as was that of Sweet Daddy McCollough. Through the spirit of Jesus Christ (Espirito Santo)The Father The Son and the Holy Ghost.. We do not mourn there call back home for each has done his duty to the holy Father at the will of the father for the time it was aloted to them. Unto them be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
A-men For they restore our souls and leadeth us into the paths of righteousness. They have prepared a table and they have anointed our heads with oil and our cup runneth over, surley goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of ABRAHAM.
THE UNITED HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR ALL PEOPLE.

No one shall hurt nor destroy in all my mountains;for the earth shall be full of knowledge of the LORD, as the water cover the sea. We ahall return to the source from whence came the Holy Spirit and the word of the living CHRIST.
On the 25th day of January 1884 in BRAVA CABO VERDE Islands off the west coast of Arica,a man child was born, named Marcelino Manuel da Graca (Charles Manuel Grace)who came to America on the ship called Freedom.

Today BISHOP GRACE,BISHOP McCOLLOUGH,BISHOP MADISON ESPIRITO SANTO de GRACA de DEUS WILL MOVE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLE THE
COUNCIL ON HIGH TO CHOOSE AN APOSTLE WHO IS WISE IN CHRIST WHO IS STRONG IN CHRIST AND WHO IS HONOURABLE IN CHRIST BY THE GRACE OF DEUS.

As it was the cause of Timotheus,WHO IS MY BELOVED SON,AND FAITHFUL IN THE lORD,WHO SHALL BRING YOU INTO REMEMBRANCE OF MY WAYS WHICH BE IN CHRIST,AS I TEACH EVERY WHERE IN EVERY CHURCH.

This very moment saith the Lord,The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.

"To him that overcometh will i grant to sit with me in my throne, even as i also overcame, and am set down with my father in his thronr. He that hath an ear,let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches."

"Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for i have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch,I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."

"BLESSED IS EVERY ONE THAT FEARETH THE LORD: THAT WALKETH IN HIS WAYS."

The lord is gracious. A-men.

"Now the Deus of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the ever lasting covenant."
