Waffle Shop to come our way?

Further rumblings in Marc Fisher's column that Douglas Development intends to move the Waffle Shop to the 600 block of NY now that it has been declared historic & must be preserved. I'm all for it!

DD still tells us they are in the planning/acquisition stages of megadevelopment. Despite the article's ending pessimism, they seem to be moving forward, albeit glacially. I really look forward to the day when all that vacant property gets filled.

The area around the Convention center needs more life injected into it. First and foremost hotels and businesses that will help create more pedestrian traffic. The businesses that have located along the Convention center will have a tough time staying afloat if nothing of consequence happens until the new Marriott is delivered in 2011. Also, the National Harbor in PG county has a new convention center that will take business (and revenue) away from DC. That affect has already started when the Washington Nationals recently held an event there. WTOP had an article in November stating that the IMF and World Bank were considering taking there business to the National Harbor as well.

That hotel probably won't open until 2017. But that might be a wakeup call. Nah, nevermind, it won't. Nothing in the U.S. gets built with the speed that was seen in this country's golden age... unless it's a gas station.
