Does anyone know what happened last night re: 508 M Street? I was awoken at 12am by a series of distant sounding popping noises ( about 40, which I assumed were far off gunshots?) I think saw a cruiser come to 508 M Street, talk to a neighbor and then additional cruisers including 3 K-9 units arrived and went to the alley in the rear. Seems like tey were checking out the vcant building, but just curious as to what happened?

That many pops could be firecrackers but you never know. Now, if we had Shotspotter, the police would be able to identify the type of noise and location almost instantly.
508 M is vacant with a pretty hole in the front window.

There was gunfire last night and several youths hit at 8:45pm at 7th and N (details and news links posted here: http://caryforcouncil.org/campaign/index.php?blog=9&title=gunfire_again&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1), but this is the first I've heard of what sounds like a second incident later last night. I'll see what I can find out.

I live next door to 508. I heard someone breaking in to the boarded up building and called the cops. They took a homeless woman into custody but they are not sure if they can charge her with anything. I told the cops that the building was condemned but when the city boarded it up, they put the board over the condemnation sticker. Thus, the cops aren't sure if they can charge the woman with tresspassing.
I also called the city today to see about getting them to board up the back entrance again. I was told that they will send an inspector first and at a later date, see about boarding it up. This house is a danger to the whole block. Does anyone have any information as to who owns the building?

You must have been the guy I saw the cops talking to! Figured it was related to someone being in there when they weren't supposed to be.
regarding the "shots" if they were even that - it was 4 rounds of ~10 pops. Who knows what they were. Was there another shooting/incidence of gunfire around 7th and N on Saturday night? After a metro FIASCO, I found myself walking home from Gallery place at 415am and saw the super spot light up there.

press links for the incident at 7th & N. one of the injured teens is the son of Robert Kinlaw (he reportedly helped broker the last peace agreement and died of natural causes last summer. violence flared up again afterwards.)
