Have you noticed an increase in property crime?

Hi all:

I live on 6th St between L and M and I park my car in an alley that is accessible from 5th street. Recently, my neighbors have been the victims of property crime. One had his car window broken into and his stereo equipment stolen and in a separate incident another neighbor had his bike stolen. Both incidents were reported to the police. I've lived in this neighborhood for almost three years and I wasn't particularly concerned about property crime -- unless say I left valuables in my car or my bike unlocked. I was just curious if there has been a rash of crime, or if it was just our turn. Thanks.

Tamden

I've lived in this neighborhood quite a few years, and I believe crime (especially theft) seems to go up around the holidays.

What exactly do you mean by "our turn", Tam? Inevitable?

I also park in that alley but haven't had any issues in the 6 months I've been parking there. Definitely post if you hear of more crime back there!!

I will and please do the same! And by "our turn" I don't mean invevitable, but rather likely.

I live on M Street (between 4th and 5th streets) and my car was broken into about 3 months ago. I am sure everyone knows this, but you can go to washingtonpost.com and they have a section that tracks the crime in every neighborhood. They track not only incidents of crime but also the type and date.

My roommates' car had the driver's side window smashed in yesterday during the day. They didn't steal anything just rummaged around inside the car. Did anyone see anything or have you noticed any other vandalism going on in the back alley?
