Well tonight's ANC meeting didnt happen. It almost did, it could've, but it didnt. Chair Doris Brooks inexplicably tried to make a motion to support the 1130-1132 5th St development with no quorum present & therefore no official meeting was taking place. The room was pretty empty and the only other commissioner present was Kevin Chapple. Brooks declared the meeting "over" and proceeded to put on her coat. Commissioner Padro then walked in. (this was about 6:39pm) I asked Commissioner Brooks since the quorum was now present, could we proceed with having an ANC meeting. She ardently insisted that the meeting was over and left the building in a hurry. This all took about 5 min. I can only surmise that Commissioner Curtis was not intending to attend. The assumption is widely held that if a meeting were to take place with Commissioner Curtis absent, Commissioner Brooks would be outvoted. So we are left with a deadlocked or completely nonfunctioning ANC. Yep.

It's a matter of respect: these developers take the time to prepare presentations and to show up at the meetings, citizens show up at the meetings for information and to learn of community happenings and developments, our tax paying dollars support ANC grants, etc. It's disrespectful that Doris did not wait just a few minutes longer in order to hold a true ANC meeting. Yes, Padro's tardiness can also be construed as disrespectful to the ANC and public, but Doris and Leroy bear most of fault for once again making a mockery out of ANC2c.
I've made an unfortunate habit out of skipping ANC2c meetings. It's tough for me to break free of work to make it to a weeknight 6:30pm meeting, And I've come to realize that, because of Doris and Leroy, these meetings generally accomplish nothing and often are cancelled at the last minute, so are not worth my time in leaving work to attend. I'm glad others are so good about showing up and documenting these things, as the accountability provided through y'all attendance is much needed and appreciated.

Nine minutes is too late on the first snow day of the year? Complaints from people who don't even go to meetings??
These meetings rarely start at 6:30 even without inclement weather (Search meeting minutes on the Chapple site under the Meetings tab).
Give Alex a break, no one has done so much for so long while putting up with these folks as he's done and still have the energy he has to do what he does for the community.
