6th & N Park Meeting

Last night we held a meeting at Kennedy Rec. Center about the park on the 600 block of N St NW.  From Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans:

"Dear All:

I want to thank everyone who came out to the Kennedy Playground
Recreation Center last night. We had a great meeting with about 25
people in attendance including three ANC Commissioners: Doris Brooks,
Kevin Chapple, and Alex Padro, ECCA President Leroy Thorpe, and Mt.
Vernon Square Neighborhood Association President Cary Silverman.

At the meeting, we all agreed the Department of Parks and Recreation
(DPR) would survey the community between December 1st and December 15th
to determine what should be built at the 6th and N Street park.

We agreed to meet again and go over the survey results on Monday,
January 14th, 6:30 pm at the United House of Prayer (628 M St NW). (It
was further agreed the meeting could be taped and posted on the web.)

I hope the entire community will reach a consensus about what to do with
the parkland at that meeting. Then, with the help of Mayor Fenty and
DPR Director Clark Ray, we will budget for it in the upcoming Fiscal
Year 2008/2009. These funds will be available on October 1, 2008.

Have a great Thanksgiving and I look forward to hearing the results of
the survey next month and seeing everyone again in January.

Jack

i believe the park at 6th and N is one of the smallest in the DPR inventory. why spend 125,000 to plan and design a park that is 50 feet wide and 70 feet deep. does it cost that much? how much to just FIX what's broken?
