Why? Jack does not care about us. Why should we care what he has to say?

After all the comments that been made, there are citizens that may want to vent directly to him. That's why.

Ask him why he hasn't had a hearing on OTR's refusal to pursue back taxes at the class 3 rate on vacant properties. OTR does not investigated clear cases of fraud either.

some of us have to work 3 jobs to keep up with the high taxes and poor service delivery. i might not be able to make an audience with jack but i'll certainly vote in next years primary.

ed thats a good one. I would also question the lack of small business assistance as their property taxes skyrocket. the businesses that rent are even worse off when their leases expire and they cant afford new high rent space in the neighborhood. Also as prices level in DC, property the assessments still go up substantially for 2008. OTR doesnt respond when you contest the number and its a nightmare to pursue them. The whole property tax structure needs much attention.
inshaw has a very interesting take today on Mr Clean's effect on assessments.

I would like to ask him to speed up the process of property transfer for a long-delayed project on the 1200 block of 4th St. The Rob Lange/Todd Collins project that was long ago approved by the MVSNA provides affordable and market rate housing. It would go a long way toward making the 1200 block of 4th a great block by adding families and deterring crime. The project is part of DC's Home Again initiative and the last hurdle is the Council's approval of the transfer of three city owned lots (1220, 1226 and 1232). Mr. Evan's should push this transfer forward as it has languished for years.

We should ask him for more tax relief. We were on schedule to receive an income tax reduction, which was never implemented (eliminated? postposed?) & the property taxes keep rising. As property values increase, tax rates should be reduced to offset. The rate should be based on a constant revenue need, and the proerty value increases shouldn't result in a windfall for the city. We've had some relief in this area, but it should be increased.
Also, I'd like to see a written plan from Jack on how he intends to make improvements in services and attention to our area over the next year. It would be useful to have some written commitments to hold him to - maybe that would discourage the historic neglect that he's shown to all things east of 16th St.
